Our Story: How Coupon Couple Started Couponing in Canada

Discovering the world of savings and coupons was a new experience for us. Our journey into couponing began in 2016, during our first pregnancy with our daughter. Juggling full-time jobs, caring for a newborn, and dealing with extensive travel made it difficult for me (Dee) to fully immerse myself in learning about coupons and staying up-to-date.

As life threw more challenges our way - welcoming a second child, leaving a corporate job, and facing the impact of the pandemic -Tom, a chef by profession, found himself without work. Seeking a way to overcome these difficulties, we tried to find a common ground, which led us to recommit to couponing as a shared activity.

We used to enjoy saving money together, but at some point, we strayed from using budgets, coupons, and apps, leading to overspending. However, it didn't take us long to realize our mistake and recommit to improving our financial situation.

We were able to start immediately saving and getting on track again when we joined TikTok and saw so many other Canadians struggling just like us. The stories were all so sad, so heartbreaking to see. Interestingly, it wasn't me (Dee) who thought of starting a TikTok page, it was Tom. He said, "we have saved so much and do it our own way, we should tell our story". And so we did!

Neither one of us thought people would like our silly videos or that the coupon community was so big.
